I am coming from out of town; Is the venue sleeping-bag approved?
Hey Conrad (aka Professor)! What can we students do to prepare our laptops for this DevCamp? For example, it seems we could install some software on our laptops? The Android SDK, some version of the JAVA SDK, and some version of Eclipse.
Personally, I prefer IntelliJ for general Java work. Would IntelliJ be acceptable for this class? It is supposed to work for Android development and integrate with the Android SDK, but I have never used that feature.
Hi! Is this event appropriate for beginners who have some Java programming experience, but are new to android/mobile apps?
Hi Conrad, I know some C++ and some Java. Is this DevCamp appropriate for beginners?
I unfortunately do not have an Android device. Does anyone know if it is possible to simply purchase a device without a carrier and still do deployments to the device to test? I suppose 3g wouldn't work, but wouldn't WIFI?
Ron, you can write your application on the Android Emulator.
It is highly suggested that you follow all the steps at http://developer.android.com/resources/tutorials/hello-wo...![]()
either for Eclipse or IntelliJ, get your AVD working, futz with the code, and get some sort of VCS running if you're in a team. Seriously, if not the whole first day will be burned on this kinda junk.
If you'd like to develop Android apps with JavaScript and HTML, check out PhoneGap and AppLaud. See http://www.mobiledevelopersolutions.com/![]()
Also, Libby just put up a new getting started video on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mT02ytSSMII&feature=re...![]()

@Owen and @Paul - Would either of you like to lead a session on this topic? Thanks!
Hey im all for giving a few quick crash courses on setting up the dev environment. Big question-- when're we starting?? Tonight? Tomorrow at 6AM? Has it already begun??

Is the venue sleeping-bag approved? Also, would the 5th and Mission garage be the best place to park?
